Cheddar dogs with Leeks & Apples

Cheddar dogs with Leeks & Apples

Hot diggity dog. We like an old-fashioned hot dog as much as the next person, but sometimes we like fancying things up. If you ever find yourself in a fit of fancy, try this recipe with leeks, apples and of course, a little bit of Pommies!

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

2 tablespoons (1/4 stick) butter
2 cups thinly sliced leeks (white & pale green parts only)
1 apple, peeled, cored and diced
1/2 teaspoon caraway seeds
Pinch of ground all spice
Coarse kosher salt
1 1/2 cups of Pommies Dry Cider
6 grilled all-beef hot dogs
6 grilled hot dog buns
Dijon mustard
2 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, coarsely grated (1/2 cups packed)

DIRECTIONS:

Melt butter in large skillet over medium heat. Add leeks and apples. Cover; cook until tender, stirring occasionally, about 8 minutes.

Mix in caraway and all spice; season with coarse salt and pepper. Add Pommies; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer, uncovered, until most of the liquid is cooked away, about 15 minutes.

Spread mustard on each of the buns, top with the grilled hot dogs and sprinkle dogs with cheese and top it off with leek mixture.
